Love is...All the Simple Things

Kinship is priceless. A parent's love for his or her offspring is magnanimous. It is something sacred that money cannot buy it. Have you ever taken your loved ones for granted and believed their care and concern is rightfully yours? Have you ever cherished every hour and every second spent with your loved ones? Time and tide waits for no man. There will be no sympathy on those who are found guilty of wasting their time lazing around.

Today, let us discover how Jeremy and her grandmother spend their time together!

Jeremy and Mdm Han

Not many younger folks will want to spend time with their grandparents. Physically, they feel that their grandparents "walk too slowly," or "talk too softly" and there is no way that they can communicate with them! Jeremy, a SIM undergraduate, will visit her with his mom or himself at least once a week, simply because "Mdm Han is his grandmother."

Mdm Han Tin Juat, 81, is a resident in Stirling View for the past 40 years. She has 2 sons, 2 daughters and 10 grandchildren. She used to work as a volunteer corps with the British military in her younger days and stayed in a kampung located in Pasir Panjang. Since the withdrawal of the British in 1971, she moved to Queenstown. One of her most memorable landmark was the historic ABC factory. She recalled that many of her neighbours worked as assistants and workers in the factory, where they are entitled to a small cup of beer every day.

Jeremy, 21, used to live in Commonwealth Close. He has since moved to a bigger flat in Choa Chu Kang but he could still remember spending his childhood in Queenstown and how Tanglin Halt was called "10 storeys!" A kind natured and filial boy, he would not hesitate to run an errand for his parents or buy dinner for his grandmother. Jeremy did not bring his grandmother to the latest attractions Resorts World or Marina Bay Sands. Neither did he buy bird nests or chicken essence for her. All he does is simply spending time with Mdm Han by chatting over a meal. Perhaps, love is just so simple.
