Chef Hainanese Western Food!

By my queenstown on Thursday, June 24, 2010 with 16 comments

Super Shiok Western Food! Look! This plate of chicken chop got a huge piece of tender grilled chicken, a baked potato, fries, salad and baked beans. It's filling, tasty and definitely palatable!

Western Food Lovers in Tanglin Halt are lucky! If they have a craving for fried chicken cutlet, they can pop into No.1 Western Food. If they want something healthier such as pork chop or chicken chop, Chef Hainanese Western Food is certainly a good choice.

A plate of Chicken Chop

Chef Hainanese Western Food has been serving Tanglin Halt residents for the past 41 years since 1969. Opened from 6-11.30pm daily, it was first started as an itinerant hawking. Eugene, who assists his dad at the stall, works at restaurants and hotels previously. He is definitely one of the few 'young' people who is willing to work in the "hot and stuffy" hawker centre. MyQueenstown Team understands from Eugene that Chef Hainanese Western Food uses frozen chicken from Brazil and makes their own recipe marinating the chicken meat.

What makes their food unique and different from other Western Food Stalls is the aromatic baked potato. Many residents and first time patrons feel that it is worthy to try because the food is very filling. Mdm Wong, who lives in the 39th storey in Blk 89 Tanglin Halt Road, orders Chicken or Pork Chop from Chef Hainanese Western Food once a week and feels that the food is sumptuous and filling!

they are definitely there for a long time. When I was younger, before Tanglin Halt market was renovated, this western store occupy a strategic spot. They have alot of sitting space.

I still remember buying pork chops and chicken chops from them when I was younger.

By the way, I remember Coca Cola used to organise yo yo competition just outside their store.

This is not the only best western food stall in Tanglin Halt. There's another one which is operated by an old couple. I loved their baked beans and their Pork chop is superb.

This Hainanese Western food stall used to sell chicken rice before they started the Western food. The old couple's western food stall was there way before they switched.

Why I know? I grew up in Tanglin Halt~ :)

For those who can still remember this stall, it has been operating back in 1960s and he used to own a bakery shop in the first place then selling western food in 1970s called 304 Western Food coz his stall number is 304, they also have number of umbrellas opened when they were ready to operate.
Due to upgrading in late 80s, he started selling Hainanese chicken rice and was crowded with customers too. The owner used to work as a Chef in big organization and he can cook very well and finally he decided to sell western food after years of selling Chicken rice. Those were the days..... :-)
