Farewell MyQueenstown #7 - Farewell KTM Tracks

On 30 Jun 2011 | 6 Comments

Much has been written about KTM Tracks lately. A simple search on Google and Yahoo will bring you to numerous websites such as this and this. After all, this cantankerous relic was Singapore's brave new world in the early 20th century.  I have always been a believer of my secondary school's motto, "Rooted in Tradition, Equipped for the Future."

On 30 Apr 2011 | 1 Comments

Call us fortunate (or unfortunate) that our series fall on the seventh month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The Hungry Ghost Festival is the most important festival or celebration of the year beside the Chinese New Year. Ghosts are free to wander in search for incense. Therefore, family members of the ghosts" would conduct ritual and prayers so that descendants could extend filial piety to their ancestors. MyQueenstown Team has covered one such ritual at Margaret Drive earlier this month. Besides rituals, performances such as getais and hokkien operas will also be organised to provide these ghosts with entertainment. Today, MyQueenstown Team wandered off to Commonwealth Crescent, where we attended a Chinese Skit and Opera and interviewed its cast.

Tanglin Halt Hawker Centre

Posted in My Father and I , Places | Sunday, August 29, 2010|By my queenstown
Like the old Tanglin Halt Market & Food Centre located a stone's throw away, Tanglin Halt Hawker Centre (Blocks 1, 2 & 3) is home to some of Queenstown's most decorated hawker stalls and historical heritage. Singapore's singular passion for food is "rooted in the scrumptious street-side hawker fare," which could be found virtually every part of the estates in the 1960s and early 1970s. Itinerant hawkers were plentiful near Block 39 Tanglin Halt Road and there were at least 20 hawker stalls. Residents do not have to spend a lot and they can "eat until they're very full." Health and hygiene weren't main concerns then. The servings were extremely generous yet cost little.
